Remember Moving Properly?: What Children Can Teach You About Your Movement Limitations

The other day I watched a 10 year old boy play by himself in his yard. He alternated his activities between pretend sword fighting, throwing a ball, chasing his little pet dog and jumping on a trampoline. During the course of his play his body naturally moved his body in all planes of motion, automatically changing the type of breathing he was doing depending on the activity. He sets a good example for the Re-Think Fitness clients who, as adults are struggling to change long-ingrained poor movement habits that are causing them pain and limiting what they can do.

If you are not getting the results you want from your health club, the problem may not be you.

We often speak with people who are exasperated and shameful about the results they achieve with their health club regimens. They fail to lose the weight they want to, feel stronger or have more energy but most importantly, they are often still in pain. They pay their hard-earned money for club memberships and personal training, they buy the supplements their clubs are selling, they regularly participate in group classes. But they never achieve the results they’re hoping for. These are people who are not “slackers.” They are gainfully employed (they are able to afford health club memberships!), often have higher than average levels of education - when you look at the rest of their lives - they are successful. So why aren’t they having success with their health/fitness? To make matters worse, they almost universally blame themselves for their lack of results.
